17. Ghost the Musical – May 28, 2012             Fun Fact time!   Most Broadway shows we get here in New York come from London’s West End where they are huge sellouts there.   That is true!   We have had great hits from Les Misérables , Cats , the long running Phantom of the Opera , Priscilla Queen of the Desert and the upcoming Matilda the Musical which is coming to Broadway this spring.   Now Broadway has got I think is one of the good shows to come out from the West End (I am writing this after it closed I know but I had to share my thoughts) and that show is Ghost which is based on the movie of the same name that starred the late Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg.   It also featured the popular song “Unchained Melody” by the Righteous Brothers used in the famous pottery scene (both the song and the scene are in the musical).             Ghost take place in present day New York and it centers on Sam Wheat (Richard Fleeshman), a banker and Molly Jenson (Cais

15. Our Girls – May 18, 2012             The 2 nd show from the Drama Department has arrived!   The production of Conrad Seller’s Our Girls under the direction of Mr. Robert Frisch was sure to be good one. It definitely was.                 The play is set up on The Lovejoy family who has named their sons “Jesse,” “Francis” and “Vivian,” because Mildred’s Aunt Jessie doesn’t like boys. Aunt Jessie lives in England, so it has been easy to deceive her.   She must never know that the “girls” who are to inherit her money are boys — very real boys. They “scrap” with Chester Wattles, are accused by Mrs. Wattles of breaking her windows, and act as other boys do .   Each one will receive $5,000 on his sixteenth birthday and more when he comes of age. Vivian is nearly sixteen, and Father plans to borrow part of the $5,000 to expand his business.   Then the blow falls! Aunt Jessie has decided to pay a visit and bestow on her eldest “niece” in person the $5,000. What can be done? The b

Extra!   Read the Headline!   Disney Gives Broadway a New Hit!   The headlines are true.   After a successful out of town at the Paper Mill Playhouse, Disney’s Newsies arrives on Broadway for what was supposed to be a limited engagement but after many sold out performances they extended and suddenly became an open ended run.   The musical is based on the 1992 movie of the same name that was a flop in the box office.   The stage adaptation can make Newsies a Smash hit!               Based on the movie about the real life Newsboy Strike of 1899, the show centers on rebel newsboy Jack Kelly (2012 Tony Nominee Jeremy Jordan) who dreams of life as an artist outside the city particularly Santa Fe (a song sung in the movie and it is in the show).   When newspaper tycoon Joseph Pulitzer (John Dossett) raises the price of his newspaper at the newsboy’s or newsies (boys who delivered the pap
